Cedar Cove

Welcome to Cedar Cove, a single player gardening and career sim game - at a golf course! As the newly-minted Head Gardener of Cedar Cove Golf and Recreation Club, over the seasons of your career you will be in charge of making the premises beautiful with plants and flowers. Cedar Cove has fallen on lean times and needs your help to rejuvenate the business! Along with your team of staff gardeners you will design and populate every bed, border, hanging basket, and standing container with your personally chosen mix and arrangement of flowers (or plants chosen for other ornamental features). But maintain them well or they won’t look very good, and the reputation of the golf course will be ruined! Or at least sullied.

You must also perform your duties well and navigate the ins and outs of employee relations to end up with the best possible ending choices! Walk around the entire premises including the maintenance crew headquarters (aka the Greens Department), every fairway and hole, the pro shop, and more (how much more can there be on a golf course? A lot)! Meet other employees and even interact with golfers, but don’t annoy them or you may become persona non grata.

Increase your budget each season by performing well and making the best-looking gardens. Unlock access to new suppliers as you become a more experienced gardener, giving you even more plants to use in your designs. Visit your gardens and inspect your plants in great detail.

Examine your environment and talk to people, and you may learn about the remarkable history of Cedar Cove, and what it means for you, and for the world… but will it be good?… Investigate if you dare, or leave that to the birds and just plant more flowers!

  • Currently in alpha development. Time frame: 2027(?).

  • Platforms: Android for now, iOS + PC + others are likely down the road.

  • Cozy-themed sandbox play with RPG style character development and story elements.

  • Interactive world - examine EVERYTHING, drive many different vehicles, use your gardening equipment, talk to people.

  • Fully player-designed gardens and containers. You choose the plants and their layout. A fully-featured garden editor is already finished with precise control over placement of every plant and ornamental rock. Did I mention there are lots of non-plant ornamental objects you can have in the garden? And once you place something, you aren’t stuck with it - you can move or remove it. But plants don’t like to be moved, so give them extra TLC for a few days…

  • Start with a small collection of plants but unlock more as you go.

  • Your custom gardens persist between game sessions, so you can craft something incredibly detailed over time should you choose to do so.

  • The game will feature digital versions of real plants, not generic fake plants. At least dozens of types of flowers, perennials, succulents, et al will be available for you to plant and maintain!

  • Golf play will also be available while not on duty. It’s almost obligatory given the setting!

  • Cedar Cove has hit hard times and only the front 9 holes were able to be maintained for several years. Can you bring in enough reputation and the money that follows it to restore the golf course to full operation and its former glory?

  • Lots of horticultural info to learn - every plant has a botanical name and information you can read. I am also planning to include really nice herbarium style sketch artwork of the plants!

  • Drive a boom sprayer! Always wear your PPE! Learn about and apply Integrated Pest Management (IPM). You will discover real IPM concepts and mix the right products, and apply them in the right way to preserve the precious turf at Cedar Cove.

  • Hidden collectibles to find such as golf balls and moths. Those and everything you can examine in the game world can always be viewed at your leisure in the Garden Log Book.

  • Play diverse characters with strengths and weaknesses to experience different play choices. Some special characters are unlockable (e.g. Linnaeus).

  • Your character’s clothing and gear can be changed and / or upgraded for different bonuses, and costumes will be a thing.

  • Smartly manage your gardening team’s assignments and nurture their strengths to get their very best job performance.

  • The game will be comprised of several seasons with each work day being playable. On each day you can take your time and explore, examine things or check out the story, in an unlimited free play mode. But each day only has enough time for a certain number of job duties to be performed, after which the day ends. These job duties are up to you from types available, such as planting a garden bed, using the boom sprayer to fertilize or control pests, watering plants, or preparing containers, to name a few.

  • Your skills will grow according to what you do, so your chosen activities help define your play style. Some activities or equipment may be accessible only with the right skills!

  • I currently have a working alpha version where you can do everything seen in the screenshots. But this game is deep and complex so it will be quite a journey to finish.

  • This game will be playable in overhead (aka isometric), third-person, or first-person camera modes. Cool!

  • I am a firm believer in accessibility, therefore this game will have lots of accessibility options! Alternate handedness / input devices, UI narration, Colour Vision Deficiency modes, and more.

  • Pending further development there will be a crowdfunding campaign (probably Kickstarter).

  • I will be involving the community during the alpha phase, in the form of play testers - watch here or on socials for the announcement to sign up when the first test phase begins. But that is still a long way away.
